Bigflix introduces movie downloading feature at no extra cost to subscribers

In the past few weeks, Reliance Entertainment’s Bigflix has been introducing new features in order to keep its one million users happy. Recently it promised to increase the number of movie titles by around 3,000 this year and also partnered with Nokia to offer the app free on the Lumia 520, 620 and the 720. Now, the movie-on-demand service has added a new feature that lets users download a movie title.
Quite similar to how online-music streaming apps let users download songs to listen to them later without the need for a data connection, Bigflix will now let users download movies and watch them offline. Once downloaded, the movies can be watched any number of times and as mentioned above won’t need an Internet connection. This feature is available to all the subscribers of the service at no additional cost.
“It’s not exactly the launch of the download service, it’s the solution of a long standing, internet- connectivity related issue faced by most of our users across regions,” said Bigflix’s Shreyash Sigtia. “Now they need not worry about streaming their favorite films, they can download at their convenience and watch them offline anytime, anywhere without having to worry about the accessibility to internet.”
To use this feature, a subscriber will need to install a “Download Manager”, which in turn will be linked to one’s Bigflix account. Once the download crosses 20 percent, users will be able to start watching the movie. Those planning to copy the movie to their computer will be disappointed as all the content is DRM and therefore cannot be copied onto another device.
