Nvidia today announced that XOLO would launch a tablet in India based on its Tegra 4 reference design. Called the Tegra Note, it features Nvidia’s latest Tegra 4 SoC that features a quad-core Coretex A15 CPU that comes with a fifth battery saving core and a 72-core GeForce GPU. The chipmaker claims it will be the fastest 7-inch tabet with a HD display. It will also come with a pure version of Android and Nvidia says it will provide regular OTA updates.
Talking of the specifications, we are looking at a 7-inch 1280×800 pixel display, a 5-megapixel rear and a VGA front camera, up to 10 hours of HD video playback and 16GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot compatible with up to 32GB cards. The tablet will come with chisel and brush tips for stylus.
The biggest feature is that Nvidia is claiming it will have 100 percent Android and Nvidia would push OTA Android updates rather than relying on its hardware vendor partners. Priced at around $199, this could be a huge deal and could turn the Android tablet market on its head in a single stroke.
Apart from XOLO, Nvidia has also tied up with EVGA and PNY Technologies in North America; EVGA, Oysters and ZOTAC in Europe; Colorful, Shenzhen Homecare Technology and ZOTAC in Asia-Pacific to sell the Tegra Note tablet.
