PSA: Don’t fall for the fake “WhatsApp for PC” app

Earlier today, I noticed a link doing the rounds on my Facebook feed about a WhatsApp PC client that would allow users to access their WhatsApp network on their laptops and desktops. The link, which has since picked up steam on Facebook, is a poorly made ad that screams of being fake and spammy. While it uses WhatsApp’s logo, it misspells the name as What’s App and What’App, possibly to get around Facebook’s policies.
We got in touch with WhatsApp and the ad is indeed fake and WhatsApp does not have any PC client. The link takes users to a Facebook app and gives access to Adfly to the user’s photos and groups list. It probably even posts the status on the groups the user is a member of on Facebook
WhatsApp, which is headquartered in the Silicon Valley, tells us that it has reported the ad to Facebook and will share an update. In the meanwhile, please do not click on the link and join the Facebook app.
