Apple reportedly buys mobile and data compression startup AlgoTrim

Apple’s been busy acquiring small startups like HopStop, LocationaryWiFiSlam and more recently Embark and the juggernaut continues with yet another acquisition. A report on Rapidus (via TechCrunch) claims that Apple has reportedly acquired a Swedish startup called AlgoTrim, which specializes in data, imaging and video compression codec for mobile devices.
In layman terms, using AlgoTrim’s compression techniques, Apple will be able to process high definition images and videos faster using less memory and without compromising on quality. Apple could use these compression codec to boost its camera’s performance and also on its image viewer across its devices.
Not surprisingly there’s no word on how much the deal is worth as both the companies have refused to comment on the deal.
