Samsung, as you all know, sells products spread across a wide range and it has further extended its range by targeting the kids with its latest device— Galaxy Tab 3 Kids. As the name suggests, it is an Android tablet aimed at tech savvy kids and is filled with games and educational content.
“It’s no secret that kids are using technology more than ever before,” said Samsung’ JK Shin. “We saw an opportunity to create a device just for kids that provides them with an intuitive, fun and kid-friendly user experience filled with rich, interactive and educational content that parents will love.”
The tablet, not surprisingly, has been developed with kids and their parents in mind. Design-wise the tablet has a kid-friendly grip with multiple stand options and will be bundled with a stylus; Samsung calls the C-Pen.
Talking of specifications, the tablet sports a 7-inch WSVGA (1024×600 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, which is paired with 1GB of RAM. Other features included are a 3-megapixel rear camera, 1.3-megapixel front camera, 8GB of expandable internal memory and a 4,000mAh battery. On the connectivity front, the device supports Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0.
On the software front, the tab runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and comes pre-loaded with kids-specific apps and even a Kid’s app Store, where one can buy educational, entertainment and e-book apps and games. Additionally, the tablet lets parents select just which apps they want their kids to access using the Application Manager and also has a Time Management feature that allows parents to set specific time periods for use. When the designated use time is up, a password protected lock screen appears, requiring a parent or adult to enter the password to unlock the device.
The tablet is should be available in Korea in the next month and will gradually reach other countries. There’s no specific date on when the tab will come to India though.
