UK’s Office of Fair Trade is looking into Google’s acquisition of WazeReuters reports. Google acquired Waze in a deal estimated to be close to $1 billion in June. Waze, an Israeli startup, provides crowdsourced real time traffic information. Google recently announced integrating real time data from Waze into its own maps. The deal would have come under the scanner for Google’s leading position in navigation and could possibly invoke fears of a monopoly. However, we believe that not to be the case with other players, especially Nokia after its acquisition of Navteq and increasingly Apple building its own navigation solution.
