Makeup is a delicate thing: It may be a secondary consideration, or it may be a full-blown hobby. Some prefer to wear a "full face,” others simply go out with Chapstick on. But no matter what, makeup can be difficult first thing in the morning, especially when you are in a rush.
If you wake up late, don’t have a concrete makeup routine, or just need a shorter routine, you can use these tips for a quick and beautiful Five-Minute Face. These tips are customizable, so don’t be afraid to add or take away anything. Beauty is individual!
Fresh Face
Start every day with a clean face! Some like to sleep in their makeup, which is okay once in a while, but never washing your face drastically ages your skin. Wash your face, or use makeup remover, at night. In the morning, those with more sensitive skin can just splash their face with water, and those who like a good squeaky clean visage can wash again. A clean canvas is the best for painting!
Cover Up
Your skin type and personal preferences play into this tip. If you have good skin and like full coverage, try out a BB cream – they’re all the rage these days, and are a one-step foundation tool. If you don’t want to use an all-over foundation, you can use a concealer stick to hide blemishes, then use a mineral powder to set the concealer and even your skin tone.
But before you do any of that, make sure to put on sunscreen! UV rays are always hitting your face, even in the winter and on cloudy days, so make sure to start with a good SPF. Try the best natural sunscreen, as it is smoother and non-greasy, and reflects the sun naturally rather than chemically absorbing into your skin. It also doesn't disturb your makeup, so you won't look shiny or blotchy. This will keep your face protected and youthful.
Cheeks
Accentuating the apples of your cheeks is a great way to emphasize your face! There are two different kinds of blush (or bronzer) you can use: cream and powder. Again, this depends on your skin type and preferences. Cream blush is dewier, and can be rubbed on with your fingers. Powder blush has a more matte look, and can be swirled on with a brush. Smile at the mirror, and apply directly to the apples of your cheeks, then sweep up toward your temples.
Eyes
One important part of the face some tend to forget is the eyebrows! Brow powder can create a more striking look, and make your eyes stand out without eye shadow or liner. Smudge some into your brows to give more shape to your face.
Then, you can apply mascara. Whether you use volumizing mascara, lengthening, or even colorful mascara, start at the base of your lashes and wiggle the wand back and forth as you sweep up the lashes. Easy!
Once you get this routine down pat, it won’t even take five minutes in the morning. That’s a few minutes you can use for something else, or even to apply more makeup, like eyeliner and highlighter. Practice makes perfect, and soon you’ll be a pro at mornings.
