Apart from the major Broadwell and Quark related announcements, Intel’s CEO Brian Krzanich revealed that Intel Atom CPU based tablets will be available in the holiday season for below $100. He did not specify whether these will run on Android or Windows, considering the licensing fee attached to a Windows PC, we are pretty sure he meant Android. That said, this also means the entry barrier for Windows based device will also get much more affordable.
Previously, he had indicated that touch screen laptops could be available for less than $200 and now this announcement could be a fillip to the tablet market. Microsoft is also hard at work to improve Windows and combined with the fact that Intel is doubling down on battery efficiency of its chipsets, there are chances Intel could give ARM tough competition in the mobile computing space. Another advantage Intel has is support for x86 applications on Windows something ARM does not, while Intel supports most Android apps.
