Serena Williams with Victoria Azarenka
When the US Open draw was made public a few weeks ago if both of them made it through, tennis fans were
set for a rematch of the
2012 final where Serena
Williams took on Victoria
Azarenka.
Now, both World No1 Williams
and World No2 Azarenka have
made it through, tennis fans
will get their due as the duo
face each other yet again
at Flushing Meadows.
Last year, it was the American
who lifted the women's
singles trophy, but this
year Azarenka will look to
get her revenge having
defeated the 31-year-old
in the last hard court clash
they had prior to the year's
final Grand Slam.
Serena Williams has looked
on top of her game as she has not dropped a set and had her serve broken only in the
semi-final against Li Na where she managed to win 6-0, 6-3.
Azarenka, 24, made little work of Flavia Pennetta in her semi-final displaying power
and intent as she won 6-4 6-2.
Serena Williams , if she wins be would register her fifth US Open title and her 17th career
singles Grand Slam.
She would also become the oldest women's winner since tennis turned professional in 1968,
replacing Australian Margaret Court who was 31 years 55 days when she won in 1973.
Belarusian Azarenka on the other hand is looking to establish herself as the hard court queen
as she seeks to add to her Australian Open title from earlier this year.
The match promises to be a treat for tennis fans but based on form Serena Williams looks
like she has the edge against her much younger opponent.
