Microsoft makes a u-turn, releases Windows 8.1 RTM for download for TechEd and MSDN subscribers

Over the last month we have continuously reported that Microsoft was preparing the release to manufacturing (RTM) build of Windows 8.1 at the end of August, which is set for a public rollout on October 18 and now the company has confirmed that the RTM build is available for download for MSDN and TechED subscribers. Interestingly, the company planned on releasing the RTM build only on October 18th, but in light of complaints from developers, the company has released the RTM build for MSDN and TechED subscribers ahead of schedule.
Reportedly, developers were having issues optimising their apps for Windows 8.1 and IT professionals were not prepared to deploy the OS in their organisations as they had not tested it. In addition to Windows 8.1, Microsoft has also announce that Visual Studio 2013 RC and Windows Server 2012 R2 will also be available for download.
